Accessing Formatting Options

You can format text in three ways:
  1. Toolbar - Click formatting buttons in the toolbar at the top
  2. Keyboard shortcuts - Use shortcuts for quick formatting
  3. Markdown syntax - Type Markdown and it converts automatically

Text Styles

Bold

Make text bold to add emphasis.
  • Toolbar: Click the B button
  • Shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl + B
  • Markdown: Wrap text in **asterisks**

Italic

Use italics for titles, emphasis, or foreign words.
  • Toolbar: Click the **I **button
  • Shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl + I
  • Markdown: Wrap text in *single asterisks*

Underline

Add underline for specific emphasis.
  • Toolbar: Click the U button
  • Shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl + U

Strikethrough

Use strikethrough to show deleted or outdated text.
  • Toolbar: Click the S button (with line through)
  • Shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl + shift + S
  • Markdown: Wrap text in ~~tildes~~

Changing Text Color and Highlighting

  • Toolbar: Click the **A **button. Select your preferred text or highlight color from the list.

Headings

Structure your document with headings. Inkstone supports six heading levels:
  • Heading 1 - Main title (largest)
  • Heading 2 - Major sections
  • Heading 3 - Subsections
  • Heading 4-6 - Smaller subdivisions
To create a heading:
  1. Click in the Style dropdown in the toolbar
  2. Select your heading level
  3. Or type # followed by a space for H1, ## for H2, etc.

Lists

Bullet Lists

Create unordered lists for items without sequence:
  • Item one
  • Item two
  • Item three
Toolbar: Click the bullet list icon, or type - at the start of a line.

Numbered Lists

Create ordered lists for sequential steps:
  1. First step
  2. Second step
  3. Third step
Toolbar: Click the numbered list icon, or type 1. at the start of a line.

Block Quotes

Use block quotes for citations or callouts:
This is a block quote. Use it to highlight important information or cite external sources.
Type > at the start of a line, or select text and click the quote icon.

Code

Inline Code

Use inline code for technical terms, file names, or short code snippets.
  • Toolbar: Click the <> button
  • Markdown: Wrap text in backticks

Code Blocks

For longer code snippets, use code blocks:
function example() {
  return "Hello, world!";
}
Type three backticks and press Enter to create a code block. Add links to reference external resources:
  1. Select the text you want to link
  2. Click the link icon in the toolbar (or press Cmd/Ctrl + K)
  3. Enter the URL
  4. Press Enter to confirm

Text Alignment

Align your text using the alignment buttons in the toolbar:
  • Left - Default alignment
  • Center - Center text (good for titles)
  • Right - Right-align text
  • Justify - Stretch text to fill the line width

Adding Images

First, go to the part of the document where you want to insert the image.
  • Toolbar: Click the icon
  • Shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl + shift + I
From here, a box will appear. You can choose to drag and drop your image into the box, or upload the image by selecting “Click to Upload”

Adding Tables

First, go to the part of the document where you want to insert the table.
  • Toolbar: Click the icon
Drag the table size to the desired number of cells. From here you can edit the table. More about this in Tables
