# Import & Export

> Bring your existing content into Inkstone, and download them in the format you need them.

## Importing

To import your doc, click <Icon icon="upload" /> Import at the top of the menu in the sidebar on the left.

Your file explorer will pop up, and you can select the document you want to upload to Inkstone. You can import any file in .docx, .pdf, .md or .rtf format.

The document will be converted and added to the project you currently have open. Once the document is converted, it will open on screen and you can begin editing it.

## Exporting

To export a doc, open the doc and click <Icon icon="download" /> Export at the top of the menu in the sidebar on the left.

Choose the file type you want to export as: .docx, .pdf, .md or .rtf format. Select whether you want to choose the save location or not,  then click Export.

Your document will now be saved as your selected file type.
